How did Briggs think he could handle Harry?

Briggs pulls this gun on Harry and tells him to drive. He even tells him what is in store. He will shoot Harry once they get there. Huh?

Given that Harry is physically superior and obviously does not want to die you know what will happen and Briggs knew what will happen. Harry will grab the gun away and knock Briggs out. Duh.

Love the film but this makes no sense. For Briggs to get Harry he needed to do it at Harry's apartment. At that point Harry had no idea Briggs was a danger to him. When Harry wasn't looking shoot him in the head.

The whole bomb in the mail box thing made no sense either for people who boldly shoot criminals in broad daylight. Innocent people could easily be hurt or killed.

Its a plot hole

Point one:
In regards to Briggs pulling the gun on Harry. Throughout history, weaker men than Briggs have pulled guns on tougher guys than Harry (albeit the only reason they'd actually have an advantage in the first place)

Point two:
I think, given Harry's (admitted) toughness, chances are the best way to kill him was by surprise, rather than try bump him off face to face?

Yes in Harry's apartment. Not until Briggs pulled that gun on Harry did he know Briggs was part of the vigilantes. He trusted him. Briggs should have killed him there.

Everything Briggs did made little sense. He has a gun on Harry ordering him to drive. He can't shoot Harry while they are driving 50 miles an hour and he can't just shoot him in the middle of a crowd of people with other cars all around.

Every single person watching that scene knew Harry would grab the gun, twist it out of Brigg's hand and then beat the shit out of him.

It's one of the issues I had with this movie as much as I like it too. The reveal that he is the boss of these vigilantes while also Harry's boss could've been done better.

Briggs had him dead to rights in the apartment and the evidence.

I think it would've been better if Briggs revealed he's the mastermind while in the car, Harry then forced to disarm, then crashes the car knocking out Briggs and then commence the rest of the ending.

That's what happens when you don't know your limitations.

I thought about this also. But then... at the end, Briggs was glad he could pin Harry for killing the three motorcycle cops so maybe his plan was to let them kill him so he couldn't be traced, or have Harry kill them (and put Harry in jail as a result) because I imagine at some point the vigilantes would become too difficult to manage and / or will turn on Briggs.
