Gunfire Sound FX

During the scene on the Aircraft Carrier (on my original viewing of this film on cable), I distinctly remember the bullets making the classic ricochet sound. This made sense to me as the guns were being fired within an aircraft carrier with steel walls and it seems like the bullets would ricochet. But on viewing this film from the new Dirty Harry box set, the ricochet sounds seem to have been omitted/removed. Anyone else remember this or have any input? I thought it added greatly to a Dirty Harry film that really had a focus on the guns used in the film. Thanks!

I certainly remember the sound you're talking about. I didn't realise that it had been omitted from the newer releases of the set. I'll have to check my own copy. I was planning to buy them all again on Blu Ray, so I can only assume it'll be the same story with those ones.

I just watched this again last night and noticed with the new Dirty Harry Boxed Set that at the beginning of the film where he is holding the gun during the opening credits and then points at the camera and does his little Dirty Harry monolog when he fires the gun it sounds different from what I remember on my old Magnum Force dvd. I just thought it was me until I read the above post. I guess they remastered the sound on this one too. Sometimes they should just leave things alone.

I agree mittelbergjr, it really is a case of "if it isn't broken, don't fix it"
