Woman in the jeep in the last shot?

My brother caught only part of this film on television, and wonders if the woman in the jeep in the last shot was also a character earlier in the film. He says that she stops driving and looks at Elliot Gould he walks away.
Thank you!

reply

yes, she's Eileen Wade, Roger Wade's wife. We expect Marlowe may be interested in seeing her again, especially since he chased her car down the street only a few scenes previously, but he clearly wants to leave the whole matter behind.

reply

Thank you very much! I really appreciate that, and so does my brother.

reply

Or, perhaps next time you and your brother could actually watch a film prior to asking a silly question.

reply

That's rude.

My question is, how come she didn't notice him?

reply

No, he's right. How could they not understand it's Eileen Wade? She noticed him since she stopped and looked at him.

What's going on? Do we have to explain the whole film?

She did notice him. She looks right at him as he walks past her. She wasn't expecting to see him in Mexico and he didn't say a word to her, so she was probably unsure at first. But she stops, clearly alarmed that he's there, and then speeds up to get back to (now dead) Terry. But she certainly recognized him.

Or perhaps next time you could straddle a fire hydrant and do deep knee bends.
