Hi, I am a HUGE fan of this film. I live in Southwest Virginia, and I was wondering where this movie was filmed. It looks a lot like Tennessee. Anyone know?

Most if not all exteriors were shot in and around Maynardville in rural Union County, TN. Union County has gained many more residents since the time of the movie, but its population still ranks 67th out of 95 counties in Tennessee, despite being bordered by heavily populated Knoxville/Knox County to the south.

I'm not sure, but being from Louisiana, it sure looks a lot like the hilly country along the Louisiana/Arkansas border. However, my girlfriend is from southwestern North Carolina and it looks a lot like it could be in the Spartanburg, SC and Gastonia, NC area also.

The earlier poster was correct. This film was shot in Union County, Tenn., in the summer of 1972. The East Tennessee History Center showed a 16mm print of the film tonight along with a program about the making of the film.

Wow, it's kind of crazy they'd show this movie in that context... I went to see "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid" when I was in high school because I was a huge Dylan fan. I couldn't get anybody to go with me, so I went by myself. This movie was on the double bill. I have to say, sitting in that movie theatre by myseof, exposed to so much senseless violence (3 hours plus, I'd guess) had a scarring effect on me. Peckinpah had the reputiaton, but this movie made his movie look like Disney. Interesting to see the big names in the movie (maybe before they were famous?) I thought it was a B movie filmed on a budget of a couple of hundred bucks. It appears from the lack of interest in it here on the IMDB it was a huge flop.

I agree there's a lack of interest in it, part of it could be those three X's in the title, but I just read the viewers review on the home page and I don't seem to be too interested in it due to his references to Deliverance and all of the violence, so I'm recording it to watch later.
