Did Toei ever release a sound track?

This movie has a beautiful score, but I can only find mp3s of the vocal songs being sung. Surely such a movie, which way back when it was made took a lot of effort, would have released a sound track?

Any info at all? I search for so long.

I believe they did; I found Akogare (the song at the beginning) on YouTube, and the background image looked like it could have been from a soundtrack. I wish I could find it though as well. It's such a jewel.

ah, I know what video you're talking about! but it's a 'single' that was sold separately, just the one vocalist's song. when i saw it, i thought too it might be a part of the sound track! but it's just the one song.

Bummer! Maybe it's still available in vintage stories on record in Japan somewhere. Who knows; anything's possible. It's looking a little less likely now, though. Perhaps if Japan did a rerelease of the film they'd bring out the soundtrack...

Yes, but at least I feel the score must exist somewhere, in records, or archives. It's a necessary part of creating a movie, anyway, right? To have the score separate, like the voice tracks and the sound effects.

I wonder how popular this film is in Japan today. It's obscure in America, even less than obscure! It's really got a 'cult'-type following, but most of the people that love it seem to love it beyond description. I'm sad that the beautiful music is just wasting away somewhere, composed, orchestrated, sung, and left to dust.

my favorite scenes all have to do with the subtle, beautiful background music. that soprano singing/vocalizing so hauntingly while Marina sits and waits for Fritz on the rock.

I was wondering about that too, how popular it is in Japan. As far as I know, it hasn't been rereleased there, has it?

not that I know? i don't think it's been truly re-released anywhere, just found and redistributed by companies, and they do a real bad job at it, too if you've ever found this movie on Amazon or something, behind a really gross cover.

I saw that. It looked like the Golden Films Little Mermaid if I remember correctly. Sigh.

Only the beginning credits song and the song she sings at her presentation have been officially release. They were not released on their own that I know of but they were included in a TOEI co. soundtrack collection with other really old cartoon songs. It was weird. Those are the only two songs that i know were released for sure and the ones that I have. to date, I have not been made aware of an official complete soundtrack with the score which would be really nice because there is very beautiful instrumental tunes in the film.
