I remeber seeing a movie from the 1970's, that there were lots of people in an old house and they start to despair during the night, there was a frightening burtler called Benson Mummy, or something like that, and there was an old maid who was bad. Could someone tell me what movie is that?

Yup it's Murder by Death and the house was not haunted. The movie is an excellent comedy about a rich flamboyant mystery book lover who invites the world's greatest detectives to his mansion to solve a soon to be committed crime. Very funny movie. The maid Greta was death and mute. The butler Benson Mumm was blind.
