Roddy Blows A Gasket

I saw this film when it first came out, and I was thirteen. I still remember and marvel at the outrageous scene wherein the "blocked" Mr. Fisher (McDowall) decides to open his mind to the house... and Roddy McDowall virtually explodes on screen -- coming at the audience face first like a 3-D object, complete with wild screaming... then falling to the floor and doing spastic contortions. Oh, that Roddy: not just a facial and verbal ham, but even a full-bodied one!

That outburst reminded me of a combination of Jerry Lewis and Martin Short having a spasm! LOL! Hilarious!

he reminded me of Jim Carrey throughout the movie

He also looks like Peter Tork (Monkees) when he has his epic freakout, and that fisheye lens totally makes it!

I just recall being totally creeped-out by the whole scene as a kid.

An outstanding scene, intimating that what Roddy's now "opened" mind perceives goes into a state far beyond mere earthly panic - something so darkly dreadful that it actually short-circuits the medium's nervous system. A frank, effective scene.
