The Ramrod

The gay bar where Bruce Dern's character followed Henry Camerero; just curious, but was that a real bar shot on location, or was it just a prop? The name of the bar in the movie was "The Ramrod". Did such a bar exist in SF? With the fairly large number of uncredited extras in this movie, I'm thinking it was probably the real deal.

If you ever watched The Man Show, there was a skit where the little kid (12 year old Aaron Hamill, the Man Show Boy) tries to get various people to buy beer for him outside a liquor store. One guy points out to him that he's just a kid, and that he knows when someone is under age because he used to be a bartender. The Man Show Boy asks him, "Where, at the Ramrod?".... Frickin' hilarious!

Yes, there was a gay bar in SF called the Ramrod, it closed 20+ years ago.

I recently saw this film again and while I don't recall the name, I remember hanging out several times with friends at that bar, which was in 2000 a popular dive bar. It wasn't a gay bar at that time, I'm sure it's still a drinking place.
