She looked a little thicker in the belly but that's it. Did she really get that big to play Sue Mengers?

Yes! Sue Mengers was asked to play a part, but declined and suggested Dylan Cannon.

She looked great in a bikini. If she was thirty pounds thinner before the movie, I hope she kept the weight on.

I'd say the same. She's not very tall, so 30 pounds is very significant. She looked great in this. I think she'd look abysmal 30 pounds lighter. No link was provided, but if the story is she did that, I'd say its likely an exaggerated claim.
