Yes, it was. But it hinted the content of this film's dialogue and cussing, which was quite a lot when the film came out in 1973!

That is a wildly incorrect statement. "The Last Detail" would still earn a hard R-rating.

i think it would still be r for sure. there's nudity and bad language. it seems to me that they used to go easier on the ratings. sometimes i rent older movies that are rated pg and they have nudity in them... today it seems like one bad word will give a movie a pg.
