Randy Quaid 18?

Well that's pretty pathetic casting really. I'm sure they could have found somebody who looked remotely like an 18 year old.

"We're making a film here, not a movie."

reply

You're probably right, but I think they made the right choice. They got a great perfomance out of Quaid, and that is more important then him looking older then 18.

I think John Travolta was supposed to play Meadows, and he was 19 at the time the movie was made.

reply

It's not that much of a stretch. There are 15 year olds that look about 30.

reply

Travolta? Pla-ease! Didn't know that; not taking anything away from him but he would made it a whole different movie. The plot calls for a pitiful 'sad sack' dork of a military private and they got one. Quaid was perfectly cast.

reply

Dude, Quaid WAS an 18 year old in this picture, he was perfect!

do they even teach math at penn state? is this your homework michael? quaid was born in 1950, this movie was released in 1973...

He was only 22 when they filmed the movie. Do those 4 years really age someone so much in your eyes? No doubt he had a baby face in the movie compared to the other two. I figured he was much older than 22 myself, until looking it up on here.

reply

No need for rudeness, is there?
A simple statement of the plain facts would allow everyone to see how correct (and polite) you are.

reply

Quaid played the role well but looked like the oldest 18 year old I have seen.

Its that man again!!

reply

Well I'm 26 and I could probably still play an 18 year old :)

And Quaid acted it pretty well and he was only like 3 or 4 years older than that anyway. It wasn't that remote at all

reply

Get a life.

He was fantastic in the movie. And only 22 by the time of shooting. Big effin deal.

Na, he was perfect. Who doesn't remember the big dorky kid in high school that looks like he should be out by now, and he really is just 18? Probably had to go through all 12 years of school standing last in line.

reply

Look at it this way; Nancy Allen played a young independent woman in this movie & four years later played a high school student in Carrie.
