A Few Goofy Things About THE LAST AMERICAN HERO (1973)

A Few Goofy Things About THE LAST AMERICAN HERO (1973)

First off, the title has LAST in it. It strikes me funny that a bio picture about a race car driver would have LAST in the title. Racing is all about being FIRST. Just an odd bit there.

Secondly, the theme song I GOT A NAME by Jim Croce. The movie is based on NASCAR legend Junior Johnson, but in the movie his name is Junior Jackson. That just seems weird to have that wonderful song with the name change in the movie.

One problem I had with the movie is that the lead character is not likeable. Now Jeff Bridges has gone on to play a lot of friendly characters so I know it was not him. I guess the powers that made the movie want Junior Jackson/Johnson portrayed that way. Perhaps in real life Junior Johnson is an SOB. If yes then Jeff nailed it.
