Texas or Madison Square Garden?

I always thought that the concert was filmed at two shows at Madison Square Garden, including one ofthe shows I saw. Am I wrong?

Marc - you're partially right: it was filmed across two shows but in, I think, Fort Worth and possibly Houston. The final show of the 1972 tour at MSG was also filmed, rumour has it in it's entirety and clips from this show have surfaced. Unfortunately, the complete MSG show has yet to reach the public domain.

I stood in line all night at (then) Jeppesen Stadium to score my tix to BOTH Sunday night shows at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston in 1972. The second show that night ranks #1 on my rock n roll performances - slightly ahead of Janis' homecoming performance (TRANSCENDENT) at the Houston Music Hall (gone) with her introduction to the audience of her Mother, Father and little brother in front row, center.

At the Stones concerts that Sunday night, I was surprised to see that the filming I had heard about for "a major motion picture" was in 16mm.(!) About eighteen months later, when I saw the limited release of the pic in Houston - complete with Quadraphonic presentation, a 44 JBL driver sound system generating 3300 Watts RMS and played at 100 db with accompanying sound board and technician - I recognized many things from the shows that I attended. Mick wore the dark jump suit for the early show and the white one for the evening show. By my estimation at the time, and I can't be 100% sure, all but approximately four songs (the ones where Mick wears green pants) were from the two Houston performances I attended.

I saw Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones last night (9/16/10) for the first time in 36 years and I'm very satisfied to find that the show was/is every bit as good as I remember. EXCEPT for the moron projectionist that didn't turn off the house lights until ten minutes into the film... I complained and got free passes!
