I have recently bought a couple of DVDs from a third-party seller at Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Seagull-Jonathon-Livingston-CLASSIC-COLLECTIBLES/dp/B000N6UFCE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/103-4155646-2960666?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1179856928&sr=8-3

But they were actually imports from Korea (not dubbed - they are in English and have Korean and English subtitles), so perhaps you could track down the original source. Good luck and I hope this helps! :)

Paramount have an English version in Region 4, which appears to be the same as the European version. I got mine from www.ezydvd.com.au

It's widescreen, anamorphic, but the English soundtrack is MONO(!) - ugh. Neil Diamond sounds like he's singing from inside a cave. Strangely, the Spanish track is in stereo. Still, the transfer is pretty good...this is a movie you really want to see on a BIG screen!!!

reply

Definitely. I saw it when I was child, and I've listen to the music ever since. I have an amazing memory of the movie, and I'll love to see a DVD edition coming out.

Dvd release date - 13/11/06. hurrah!

It´s out on Germany already and you can expect a single DVD with no Extras. We have just German/English soundtrack. I hope you get something better in US.

In Portugal we are always the last one to receive the movies. It's already released all over Europe but here...nothing!!! If I want to buy the movie from Spain it doesn't have subtitle in Portuguese and the audio is in mono (English version)

Cool will have to look for it at the Store. One of my Favorite books back in High School. Had the Casset tape of it but its wore out and doesn't work any more. Now we just need to get the CD version of it and all will be peace loving again.

I was fortunate to get my hands on the audio cassette of this book before I watched the movie. Listening to the rich voice of Richard Harris narrate made the movie that much more enjoyable and easier to follow. I have also read Richard Bachs Illusions and there is a great similarity to JLS. I don't know if it was his intent or not, but it struck me that both stories seem to run parallel to the story of Jesus. Someone seeking personal perfection at the risk of being persecuted, then going on to a higher plane and coming back to teach others. Anyway, it was just a thought for a great movie, choke up every time.

I saw it today and it was a bit strange : dull, weird but good. The script was rather deep about humans problems. My only disappointement is that I wanted to hear the wonderful song of Barclay James Harvest *Jonathan* but they composed this title after the movie! Sigh.....

Circles in the sky
White as paper fly
Sound of seagulls crying fills the air
High above the lonely one is there
Jonathan he cares
To feel better
Like the passing wind
Swooping down again
Waitin' for the sun to turn to night
Find him miles away in endless flight
Longing to be free
Telling you and me

Give me wings to fly
Tell me why, tell me why
The answer must be heard
And from a lonely bird
He's giving us a reason to believe

See the painted silver sunlight on his wing
As he sails upon the wind and slowly skyward
Flying as to music you can hear him sing
Like the windsong on the breeze he seems to sigh

Give me wings to fly
Tell me why, tell me why
The answer must be heard
And from a lonely bird
He's showing us the way we can be free

WOW!!!! Wonderful, stirring lyrics! Thank you for making us aware! Too bad it wasn't in the original score, but then it would have been a 2 hanky movie lol.
May I suggest that you pick up a few of Richard Bachs books, it will give you some insight into his style and make JLS a bit more understandable. Thanks again for this post.
