I just watched this movie last weekend and am about to start volume 2, but for the life of me I can't remember the exact details of Sakai's death at the end of the film. I know Yamamori ordered the hit, but how exactly did it occur? If iI remember, it was right after he got out of the car with Hirono in it right? Does anyone remember exactly?

Sakai was indeed killed after he got out of the the car with Hirono in it. Sakai just said that he was thinking about quitting the business. He walks down the road a bit, two guys following him. He stops by a toy store where he picks up a doll. As you might recall, he just had a baby with his girlfriend, Yamagata's widow. Yamamori's hitmen shoot him several times frantically as he stumbles around all bloody in front of the store. He drops dead on the pavement still holding the doll in his right hand. Freeze shot. Sakai Tetsuya - Deceased. Quite poetic ;)
