Pre-2000 Hendrix documentary (PBS?)

I remember my parents turning on TV & starting to watch a biography/documentary about Hendrix. They didn't know who he was & were surprised when the music started (not their speed) but by then they were hooked on the film. I'm pretty sure it had interviews with some of his family. My dad died in 2000 so must have pre-dated then. I'm trying to find it. Any ideas?
