The best Soviet Comedy ever made!

It would be nice if the creators of the film made a new digitally remastered edition of the film and released it in the theaters.

Right on, dude! Too bad we didn't have a VCR when it was on air but my dad and I laughed our a**es off watching this movie.
Great sense of humor, adventure, suspense, fiction -- what else do you need?

reply

Yeah, it's a great comedy! I am Russian, so I've seen it about 100 times!
It's a pity that practically all creators of this movie are dead.
For those, who enjoyed this movie I want to recommend you our Soviet comedies created by genius Leonid Gaidai: "Brilliantovaya ruka", "Kavkazskaya plennitsa, ili Novye priklyucheniya Shurika", "Operatsiya Y i drugiye priklyucheniya Shurika"... well, anyway you must see all movies by Leonid Gaidai

reply

yeah great comedy with nothing funny in it. a disappointment for me, i have to say.

reply

hello-world911 you don't know what good comedy is... this movie is funny as hell...

i'll be back

reply

Thanks for the suggestions, mate. Looking forward to watching those movies you've mentioned. If they're half as good as this one was, it'll be a treat!

Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!

reply

I like the idea and this truly is a great and hilarious film but there are many better Soviet comedies!

Kidnapping Caucasian Style and Gentlemen of Fortune for example.

Somebody here has been drinking and I'm sad to say it ain't me - Allan Francis Doyle

reply

Great film, one of the best comedies in any language. Not only very funny, but very well done.

There, daddy, do I get a gold star?

reply

It's a real pity you ended your "there are many better Soviet comedies" with two terrible ones.

reply

I am not too much of an adept of Gentlemen of Fortune, but Kiddnapping Caucasian Style is an interesting movie. Not only as a comedy, the plot itself is awesome and I love the characters development. On the narrative point of view it is moving when you understand Russian and watch it in its mother language. I think it is in my top 3 of movies from Soviet Union.

reply

Out of curiosity: how many non-Russians liked this one? Because I didn't.

reply

I'm not Russian and I think it's great. Why they changed the title in English is beyond me, though. "Ivan Vasilievich Changes His Profession" is the Russian. Changes Jobs would have worked for the English.

reply

Probably didn't want Spielberg to sue

reply

I liked it but I didn't love it.

I wonder how much is due to my not knowing Russian, or whether the people on here who gave it such a high rating are nostalgic for their youth when they first saw it?

So, how many under 25 Russian speakers love it?

reply

I am under 25 and I am a Russian speaker and I always LOVED this movie. And I am not a huge fan of Soviet/Russian cinema in general, but this one always got this little something for me. Don't know, it might be the mix of science fiction and comedy something that was really unusual for movies made in the time of Soviet Union. But yeah if I had to rewatch an old soviet movie, I think i'd pick this one without hesitation!

I also LOVE Operation "Y".
