how come it's in Sci-Fi top list?

I'm not taking into consideration this movie as a comedy, which is
still unbelievably lame, but what I wanted to say is that I was just
shocked to see it in top-50 Sci-Fi films.

Even those who still enjoy plebeian Gaidai movies must admit that it
has NOTHING to do with Sci-fi and only dishonors top lists of IMDb.

..constants are changing

it is SF comedy movie... you have time machine, time travelling... it is all element of SF...
and it really deserves to be on that list and should enter od 50 best comedy movie list....
it is a classic...

i'll be back

reply

Yeah, until time travel is real this movie is sci-fi.

It was all a dream though...

Because it's one of the greatest comedy science fiction films ever made, directed by a true master of comedy. You either have no taste is movies or are not in a position to judge this film's quality.

What a terrible experience it is going through the sci-fi list and seeing such greats as Metropolis, 2001, Blade Runner and Solaris and then seeing Ivan Vasilevich there alongside those names. :(

reply

not terrible, quite vindicating. shows objectivity and understanding of this film's cultural and aesthetic contribution to science fiction/comedy genre.

reply

First, they are all different movies. Second, they come from England/USA which are totally different cultures and had a totally different budget. We russians love this movie, it is part of our culture. If you are american i am not surprised that you didn't like it but don't talk out of your ass.

And btw, even though I am russian, i don't like most Russian films (especially those made in the past 20 years) so don't even try to say that my opinion is biased. This was just a movie ahead of its time in soviet union and does a quiet effective job mixing comedy and science fiction.

Well it looks like the majority of people fully understand why it is in the science-fiction section as well as the comedy section, it is "comedy science-fiction" in the same vein as such classic Eastern European films from the Eastern Bloc/Soviet era like "Tomorrow I'll Wake Up And Scald Myself With Tea", Sexmission or "A Nice Plate of Spinach" to name but a few.

Some people are just doomed to see the world in terns of "single vision" to borrow a phrase from William Blake, they get very uncomfortable around multiple genre films, I feel very sorry for them, they are really missing out... but of course you cannot tell them that, as they are usually "always right" ;)

reply

I somewhat agree with the OP. To me this movie is first and foremost a comedy; it just happens to have a time machine in it.

However I will concede that since I don't speak Russian it is possible that I'm totally wrong.
