This is possibly one of the best westerns I've ever seen

What do you all think? Very different, but man was it entertaining. Beautiful ending. Genius.

Donnie: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?

Yes, this film marked the transition from the "serious" Italian westerns of Sergio Leone (which were waning in popularity) to the "comedic" westerns that sprung from the success of Terence Hill's "Trinity" movies. This film straddles both film "worlds" magnificently!

reply

probably the third best western I've seen. Hill and Fonda are magic together, they should have made more. Great story and soundtrack.

I'd like to know your top two favourite westerns.
Mine would be the Wild Bunch and Once Upon a time in the West.

reply

- Django Kills! (aka Tire encore si tu peux which means "Shoot again if you can")
- The Good the bad the ugly
- Magnificent Seven
- The Searchers
- Days of Wrath
- Django

Well, you couldn't be wrong with a list like that...

reply

There are so many... But I think I would have picked "For a few Dollars More" if I had to pick only one.

reply

Mine would be the Wild Bunch, Once Upon a time in the West, Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, The Oxbow Incident, Close Range, and Unforgiven.

reply

Yeah, this movie is one of the best westerns ever produced. The ending was pure genius. As for my favorite westerns....anything directed by Leone. Plain and simple the guy was the best. The man with no name trilogy and Once upon a time in the west...doesnt get any better than that. As for my favorite out of those four...usually whichever one I am watching at the time..lol.

reply

M<y own top two are "Once Upon a Time in the West" and "The Shootist" - TGTB&TU comes in a very close third - it's almost a photo finish or maybe an oil painting...

Yep, great subtle comedy & western movie. I first saw it in late 80s.

It was only about 6 years ago that I looked for more movies with Terence Hill (& Bud Spencer). They are "almost" awesome movies, yet cheesy & goofy, & the dubbing is often off.

I have to admit that most all movies do not get my complete attention -- I view my computers on multiple screens. Should I mention that I've been diagnosed with ADD? Hahaha. No matter; I like to do many things at once (ie multi-tasking).

Hill is a great actor, although, partly due to his handsomeness & another's voice, which usually has good tone, inflection & other.

The scenes with his fighting are extra-ironic because he is not big -- although tall, at 6'-0, he is rather narrow, but not wimpy.

No quibbles with likelihood, his skill, rather than might, won his fights, as scripted, haha.

This is definitely an under-rated gem. I know very few people who have seen this movie, but pretty much everyone I know who has seen absolutely likes it if not loves it.

reply

Check out Companeros and The Mercenary. Equally great films.

reply

Agreed. "The Mercenary" is probably the better of the two, although "Companeros" is also very, very good. Or what do you think?

reply

Unforgiven is the BEST western there is.
There are some more entertaining ones, but Unforgiven has no equaly.

reply

You sure? What about The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, or in fact any of the Leone films?

Don't think many would agree with you.

This movie is just GREAT!

I hate "I-rarely give away 10/10-Users"

the good the bad and the ugly

reply

I'm going to say that Once upon a time in the West and the good, the bad & the ugly are my two favourites. I won't say which is better as I like them both for different reasons. I'm a big fan of all of Leones westerns (all of leones films in general for that matter, once upon in merica may be favourite film in any genre) even my name is nobody which was surprising as I thought it was going to be a shoddy B movie and beforehand I hadn't realised how heavily Leone was involved. It is a good movie though, a nice entertaining watch.

Republicans dont watch stand up, theyre busy watching cartoons, trying to see who's gay.

reply

I loved this movie when I was 12. Now, 24 years later, I felt embarassed half of the time, "comedy" pretty much sucked. But the ending was good though. And Henry Fonda.

reply

My top three
Wild Bunch
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
My Name is Nobody
followed by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

reply

I like the Terence Hill-Bud Spencer westerns better than the Clint Eastwood type. My top five westerns:
The Magnificent Seven
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
High Noon
Red River
My Name Is Nobody

reply

It's peculiarily good. It has the elements of serious theme an plot, but the way it's carried out is in a comedic way. Very interesting. It's nature is fully conveyed by Morricone's awkwardly modern yet conservative soundtrack. And Terrence Hill stands out.

reply

I loved it. Never heard of it until a week ago and only watched it because of the Sprint commercial tie-in when I was channel surfing. What a great surprise.

reply

I want to get my hands on it, but it seems I can only get it thru Ebay. I live in Canada, they don't seem to have stock of it around here.

reply

I love this - here's mine.

1 Once Upon A Time in the West
2 Good Bad and the Ugly
3 Wild Bunch
4 Rio Bravo
5 Man of the West
6 The Searchers
7 Unforgiven
8 For a Few Dollars More
9 If You Live, Shoot (Django Kill!)
10 Red River
11 Seven Men From Now
12 Keoma
13 Hombre
14 Outlaw Josey Wales
15 Fort Apache
16 McCabe and Mrs Miller
17 Blazing Saddles
18 My Darling Clementine
19 A Bullet for the General
20 My Name is Nobody

I can't wait to see The Proposition.

reply

I agree with you Rowi111. Very entertaining. The music is BENT but still cool.

reply

What? Nobody mentions Shane? Hands down my favorite.

reply

[deleted]

Yup, "Shane", "The Professionals" were amazingly missing. And how about "Lonesome Dove"?

reply

very good

Another great western nobody has listed is Chato's Land. This was Charles Bronson and Jack Palance at their very best.
