Would love to find a DVD of this one...

How would I go about doing that? I remember the movie from when I was a kid, and have the book. Any suggestions?

I can't help you find the DVD just yet. Will keep eyes open. I saw it for the first time last night. My husband's mother and my husband read the book many years ago. My husband was it last night around 9pm but I missed it. At around 1am it was on again. I was so glad that I stayed up and watched it. It is a remarkable movie. It is so down to earth without all the fancy dancy stuff of other movies. I had to rate it a 10.

I checked it out on Amazon.com, and the DVD is not available, but it is available in VHS. And where they shot that movie, my father-in-law's mother was born in that area, and his cousins were in that movie.

i purchased my DVD of "I Heard the Owl Call My Name" from Modcinema, they also carry another great Tom Courtenay flick called "Otley" but it is interesting to see him in an American production here.

I just got a decently priced copy from eBay if you're still looking.
