Anne Boleyn beheading

Is the beheading of Anne Boleyn deliberately left out of this film or is the dvd version i have been cut???

reply

They do not depict her death - instead they focus upon Henry and Cranmer during her execution.

I first saw the film years ago when it was first released and yes, Anne Boleyn's execution was deliberately left out. It is alluded to when Henry is talking to Cranmer, when the sound of distant gunfire interrupts their talking. I've always been curious as to why Katherine Howard's execution was featured in this film and not Anne's. However, which ever execution was shown, it is an unquenchably great film, nevertheless.

Sometimes not showing a scene makes its image more powerful to us. I think that Henry talking to Cranmer, and hearing the guns, and seeing his eyes, had much more of an impact than if we'd seen her on the block. His eyes showed loss and pain and just made a deeper impression.
