Soundtrack Similiarity

Did anyone notice as I did, that parts of the soundtrack resembled Lalo Schifirin's earlier score for Cool Hand Luke, that was used by WABC in NY for the opening of their Eyewitness News broadcast? Good movie. Shame Bruce Geller died only a few years later in a plane crash. It would've been interesting to see how he could've improved on the Mission Impossible movies.

reply

Absolutely. But I love Schifrin, and a composer of his ilk ripping himself off a bit is so much more palatable than 90% of the hacks currently working in generic sequences of clunks and bangs that are shamelessly passed off as scores. Good observation.

reply

Yep, total agreement to both posts, indeed well observed!

I wish this score would be released on CD some day, either by Schifrins own ALEPH-label or FSM or Intrada or Varese. :-) Let´s hope and keep fingers Xed.

I can't watch that scene Cool Hand Luke and not think of Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel.

But the image of Joy Harmon soon erases those thoughts.

It ain't easy being green, or anything else, other than to be me
