Defines the word...'cult'.

If you've come here on purpose, you REALLY know your s***.
If you're here by accident, you've just found a film that defines the word 'cult'.
If you haven't watched it, watch it. If you have, you're one of a handful of people blessed by the God Monster.

It crawled into my hand, honest.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

I almost died I was laughing so hard.

Did you go watch "Black Sheep" the flick from New Zealand? That one's a black comedy and gore filled laff fest as well. Ain't talking about the Chris Farley fakery one.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.

I could lie & say I am a hardcore fan of cult movies (well, actually I am) & have known about this movie for a long time, but I won't be pretentious. I came across it tonight while sifting through the free movies in my cable company's "On Demand" section. I do always have an eye out, however, for obscure, bizarre movies, especially from the 60s & 70s, and when I saw "giant mutant sheep" in the brief movie synopsis at 4am, I couldn't resist. Amazingly, it held my attention for the entire hour & a half, even during the rather static filler moments. I liked it, for what it was. It was wonderfully campy & pock-marked with cheesy acting...although I've seen far worse. By movie's end, I was actually feeling an affinity toward the poor sheepy creature.

That said, I just wanted to add that when I was in 7th grade, I made a gruesome paper mache full-head mask that turned out better than the godmonster's head. I give them points for trying, though, because the bodysuit part was kind of neat. I wonder how much money someone got to lumber around in the desert heat with that massive costume on?

What more can you ask of a film?! I'm glad you enjoyed i; Frederick Hobbs has two other cult classics out there, 'Alabama's Ghost' and 'Roseland' which deserve an airing, although both are VERY rare!

Also, the mutant mint-sauce dodger was celebrated by 'The Cramps' in their song 'God-Monster from the End of the World'.

Holy Snuffalfagus Batman. This tops They Eat Worms. (Well, maybe. I've only watched this once. In fact, it's not even over.) I am enchanted.

So that's at least six of us who've seen this film now...

I am definitely spreading the word about this one. Incredible. How the hell did they get funding for this? I'm going to buy it and research it. OMG.

reply

The Director seems to have sunk a lot of money into his own projects...people seem to think he's also the lead actor scientist guy.

He also made two other films called 'Roseland' and 'Alabamam's Ghost', which are even rarer to find than this one.

I saw a clip from 'Roseland' and it just looked awesome...

Netflix doesn't have either one of those. Did you see the clip on youtube?

reply

No...it's on the GodMonster DVD from Something Weird.

Hmm. Which one is it? I think I've seen pretty much all of Something Weird's flicks.

Just bought GodMonster from Amazon for $3.99. I watched the Netflix copy three times before sending it off. I started taking notes the last time...I'm thinking I might write something about it. It's waaaaaaay too funny to not be more famous.

Have you see They Eat Worms? Aka The Wormeaters? Up until now, that was my favorite cult movie. To this day I still say "You got ball cock?" to the friend who turned me on to it. Also "Hotdogs, girls, hotdogs!"

reply

It's on the Something Weird DVD of GodMonster...it's in the extras.

Never seen Worm Eaters...worth watching?

I liked it. It's got real worm eating in it, and those scenes are actually pretty gross. It is a must-see for cult fan, though. God only knows how people come up with this crazy stuff, and even more, who backs it.

Cool.

This film is without a doubt one of the looniest pictures ever made. The ending in particular is absolutely bonkers. Moreover, the goofy-looking giant mutant sheep has to be seen in order to be (dis)believed.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find
