Not that bad!

A lot of people say how bad this film is but it is not that bad. Nigel
Green (Colour Sergeant Bourne in 'Zulu') is the best part of the movie.
Mr Green is one of my favourite actors and it is a shame he was never
the main star of movies (because he died just before this movie came
out). This is was one of my most watched film when younger and sadly I
cannot find it anymore. The fights scenes in this film are not that bad
and the acting is good. Also who cares if none of the actors in it are
big stars, Zulu and other classic films had only a few big stars.I
suggest you watch the film and judge it for yourselves.

Nigel Green did get to play the leading hero in The Face Of Fu Manchu, and was the definitive Hercules in Jason and the Argonauts (easily the best thing in the movie and the part he will always be remembered for). However, he had an aloof, somewhat sinister and enigmatic quality about him that casting directors quickly noticed: hence his frequent casting in villainous and mysterious character actor supporting parts. He had the height and presence to be a leading man, but he was never what casting directors would judge to be a pretty romantic lead. His enormous charisma and gravitas is apparent in Zulu, Jason and the Argonauts, The Ipcress File, Gawain and the Green Knight and other pictures, but most of his career was spent being the supporting actor.
As for Gawain and the Green Knight, I haven't seen it since 1983. The distibutors, United Artists, sold it for television many years ago. It occasionally turns up on television stations around the world (who buy it cheap as part of three-for-one style package deals), but these screenings are rare. This is a little known movie, and it was disowned by its director because its distibutors re-cut it against his wishes. He remade it as Sword Of The Valiant ten years later, but this was an even bigger disaster (creatively and financially). The original 1973 Gawain is still a fascinating picture, and one I would dearly wish to see again.

Glad you liked it, especially the fight scenes,...... as I was in most of them !!

Shot on location at Peckforton Castle in N.W. Cheshire...... I`m told I get the

screen to myself in the fight scene between the towers, but i`ve never been able

to track down a copy, so don`t know for sure.

If anyone knows where I could get a copy from, I would be very grateful.....

Lot of fun making it too. As well as the odd jam with Murray while sitting around

waiting for the next take.

Hey, it's been several months since you posted, Pedropet, so I don't know if you're still looking, but it appears that you can download Gawain from this site: http://www.movieflix.com/movie_info.mfx?movie_id=2844
(Sorry for the non-functional link--you'll have to copy and paste.)
