italians vs japanese

the violence and color schemes and mediocre plots are both common in japanese pinky violence and italian giallo's.

are giallo's better than pinky violence films?

i have seen more pinky films than giallo's. the violence is great in both but pinky films have more action. and the woman are beautiful in both genre's but pinky's have more nudity, atleast this is my take on giallo's i have seen.

Italian Gialli have better camera work, photography, music, and, sometimes, fashion; their style looks and sounds a little better. The Japanese do some outrageous stuff with sex and violence, but it looks "gritty" and "rough."

Ennio Morricone, Riz Ortolani, Nora Orlandi, and other composers made extensive careers on scoring these films, whereas I can't name one Japanese composer for their respective movies. I could probably name two or three cinematographers for Gialli, but not one Japanese. These are two such qualities which have made directors of exploitative fare famous beyond their niche crowd - Mario Bava, Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Sergio Martino, Brian De Palma (although not a European director his 70s movies were very much like Italian Gialli and Eurohorror), et al. Film buffs would be able to recognise the names. Japanese Pink directors? You'd have to be further into Asian exploitation to name more than one. I know of film buffs who could barely name a few movies by bona fide good directors such as Suzuki Seijun, let alone the more esoteric stuff. I bet if those exploitative films were scored by the likes of Sakamoto Ryuichi, Hisaishi Joe, Kawai Kenji, Kitaro, Yamashirogumi Geinoh, and Kanno Yoko, they'd get a little more recognition beyond their shocking qualities.

Have you seen School of the Holy Beast, Sex and Fury or Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion?

Those films are on par with great giallo films. Norifumi Suzuki is a mindblowing director. I agree with what you said about composers making great scores but I think if scenes from the above mentioned films where put next to famous scenes of notable Argento films there would be fair applause.

I think the only reason why the Pinky Violence films arent as household-named (for cult status sake) is do to the availability to the US until this decade.
