What Was Your CREEPIEST Story?

I LOVE this movie to bits and think it is one of the creepiest movies I have ever seen. Well crafted stories and brilliant characters.

What was your particular favourite story of the four, your CREEPIEST story? Personally, I thought they were all creepy, but if pushed I would probably say THE ELEMENTAL. The creepiest moment for me was where the wife suddenly gets possessed by the elemental late at night. Wow, scary stuff! I still get a chill down my spine where her husband regains consciousness and watches the door slowly open . . . and she is standing there, a strange and evil look on her face! And what makes this scene work all the more is the fact that the couple had mistakenly thought that the medium had successfully banished the elemental from their home!

They don't make him like this anymore!

I find the Elemental one to be quite comedic - what with Madame Orlac and all (you could tell Margaret Leighton was having fun with that role). I think the Diana Dors one is the creepiest. There's something nasty and cold about that episode, not least because of Angela Pleasance's unnerving face and the way she tells the kid 'We always answer children's prayers...'

Yes, I know that the Elemental did have facetious bits in it, but I still found the part where the wife turns evil in the dead of night really creepy! And, yes, I do agree with you that the Diana Dors tale was creepy. It was quite a well-crafted story too.

yeah that story did leave its mark on me as well. Funny though, I was at a party on the night I watched this. Me and this guy was speaking to this woman and all of a sudden, she turned ghastly hateful. Then when I got home, I popped this video into the video player and watched it. The wife suddenly turning murderous reminded me of the party...creepy.

I've always loved this film, and all of the stories have their moments but 'ACT OF KINDNESS' is the best for me. What a great sinister double act from Donald and Angela Pleasance. I'd go as far as to say this is my favourite story from any of the horror anthologies.

For me it was the first story with the knife slashings. REALLY did a job on me when I was 12.

To me the ELEMENTAL didn't make sense, if the wife was the demon, who was strangling her?

Badlands1: The Elemental was originally "attached" to the husband until the medium came in and banished it. But then, when they thought all was well it returned and knocked him down the stairs and THEN took possession of his wife. She (possessed by the elemental) says "You tried to deny me life" to the husband, and then kills him.

Creepiest? No question. Seeing a face appear in a mirror just scares me senseless. THAT was the creepiest story.

The Long Walk stops every year, just once.

The mirror story with David Warner was the creepiest imo.Angela Pleasence was easily the creepiest character in the film though.

The Gatecrasher for me too.
I must have been 9 or 10 when I watched it and him turning up at the mirror was scarey stuff. The only other thing that scared me around that time that I really remember was the kid at the window in Salem's Lot.

They are all excellent, but "An Act of Kindness" is the creepiest and also my favorite. I love how it ends and there is some really great character development. I like this one because it was multi-faceted and almost had a twist ending to it. Also the first one was very creepy too with the man in the mirror. But they are all worth watching.

I watched the film again this afternoon and found the story with the antique door quite creepy. The crumbling, dusty decor, cobwebs, and blue lighting of the room behind the door all added to the atmosphere of this story IMO.I'd say this, The Gatecrasher, and An Act of Kindness are my faves.

The first story with David Warner was the scariest for me.

To me, it was always the Door. I always loved how the couple survived, and I was wondering "something bad must happen to them next, because all the other stories end up with dead characters." But then they cut to Peter Cushing counting the money. The husband was honest and gave Peter the full 40 pounds and did not steal anything. He was honest, so he got to survive. A great little twist that was unexpected.

Agreed, chet.

The creepiest story for me was the one about the mirror. I've had a phobia of looking at mirrors at night ever since hearing stories about Bloody Mary as a child in addition to once reading a story about a man who supposedly saw his reflection being murdered in the mirror and died of a heart attack the same night. So because mirrors have always frightened me anyways I found that story to be the creepiest.

I remember when I was a kid, there was a spooky story told about Black Madam. The story went that if you would go into a school bathroom when it was dark, put on the water tap and say "Black Madam, Black Madam, o come" in the mirror, she would appear and tell you that you were going to die soon and how. Such a story felt inspired by the Amicus horror anthology for sure.
