The true story?... Meaning what???

If the title was meant to mean this one is "a faithful adaptation" of the book, then it is a huge fraud. I didn't like the book, but I watched this version only because James Mason is in it. I was much disappointed and utterly bored. This version is almost a parody of Shelley's story.
Hammer's 1957 version is so much better! It is not very faithful to the original, we all know, but then it was never meant to be! For my money, that one is the best Frankenstein I have ever seen.

It was claimed to be the way mary shelley wrote it.

Well... it is not. It is a huge fraud. They must have spent a fortune on making this "true story" as they call it, and all they managed to make was a snoring feast parody. Absolutely ridiculous and terrible.
