OVERRATED

I often felt this movie was overrated. What say you?

Your comment is overrated

i disagree

reply

I say you're wrong.

I don’t give a fuck about your alleged feelings, “Ken.” I want to know your facts, of which I am certain you’ve a dearth. Prithee, regale us with your elaborate genius; or did your bitty brain check out when you jerked off after making this feckless post?

reply

It just didn't have the pizazz of, say, Jaws.

reply

I have to agree. I admit that demonic possession movies aren't really my thing, although this one does have some creepy moments. But the biggest problem is that it's just incredibly drawn out, especially the first half.

reply

Agree. I think I was too taken by all the fright scenes at first, but can be more critical now. It does drag at first, then rushes through to end. The Exorcist character comes in way too late and has too few scenes. I still want to understand why the personal secretary and house staff stayed on. It does have good cinematography, especially the street scenes. It makes Georgetown feel eerie.

What version of the film did you watch?

The theatrical cut flows much better and gets to the nitty gritty quicker. It also doesn't have the naff 'pazuzu/captain howdy' CGI faces popping up everywhere.

Some of the added scenes are cool enough in isolation but pacing is integral to a films quality and the theatrical cut is absolutely the superior cut.

If you watched the extended one, try give the theatrical cut a try whenever you revisit the film. If you watched the theatrical cut and came to this conclusion then stay far away from the extended cut, it'll only make the 'incredibly drawn out' first half more-so.

reply

I don't think they even show the theatrical version anymore.

But it's also like Who said, the end is too rushed as well. Merrin shows up and it seems to be over in 5 minutes.

I ALSO AGREE...POSSESSION FILMS NOT BEING MY THING EITHER...THE MOVIE HAS SOME ICONIC MOMENTS BUT NOT A WHOLE LOT MORE THEN THOSE MOMENTS.

reply

There were no possession films when this came out. Think about that.

reply

YEAH...I WOULD PROBABLY LIKE THE FILM A LOT MORE IF I WAS OLDER AND HAD SEEN IT EARLIER.
