FDR was shot at?

They say this in the movie, i was wondering if that was true. I know a lot of the historical info is correct.

Actually, everything in "Executive Action"--except the hypothetical (?) conspiracy--is based on historical fact. Director Miller said, "Everything we show is supported by evidence."

Roosevelt was shot at while President-elect, in February 1933 (his inauguration was the last to be held on March 4 rather than January 20), in Miami, by an Italian bricklayer who (as I recall) was angry at all authority, not just FDR. He fired several times with a handgun, all missing Roosevelt but one hitting Chicago Mayer Anton Cermak. Cermak lingered a few weeks and died after FDR was in the White House. The assassin was either hanged or went to the chair.

I'm rather certain the photo in the slide presentation (in "Executive Action") showing FDR atop the back seat of the car was, in fact, taken at the site of the attempt, just before.

I can't be certain, but I think he went to the chair.

TO: - BubblegumTate;

It's interesting to speculate on what would have happened had FDR had not been president, but after the attack on Pearl Harbor, I don't see how the United States could have further delayed our entry into WWII.
If I'm not mistaken, Hitler's scientists were working on heavy water experiments which is connected with the atomic bomb. If nuclear bomb technology could have been installed on Hitler's then state of the art V2 rocket, what untold damage could have he caused, not only with England and France, but worldwide. He wasn't doing too bad of job with just conventional weapons.
FDR's anti-poverty programs probably helped a lot of people. I can remember my mother telling that during the Depression, sometimes my father only worked two days per week.
I don't have any real problems with these type of assistance programs for the needy, but I do believe that those in need should rely on these type of programs as little as needed, and I also believe these same people in need should try to independently sustain themselves as much as possible.

"You got time to lean, you got time to clean!"

I like that above quote. This might help me get up enough ambition to clean up my apartment, and help get the rest of my underachieving life out of the doldrums.

THANKS.

The assassination attempt on FDR has given rise to conspiracy theories of its own. Since Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak, who took the bullet meant for Roosevelt, was an avowed enemy of the Chicago "Outfit" many have speculated that he was the intended victim all along and that Zangonara was actually working for the mob.
Nice theory, but impossible to prove either way.

tracy I once read that right after he was shot Mayor Cermak told FDR "I'm glad they got me Frank instead of you."
