Leonard Maltin's review

To quote what he said about the movie in his TV and Video Guide, "This movie was more successful at clearing out theatres than it was on clearing the air about Kennedy's assassination," and I think that sums it up pretty accurately.

reply

Thats why no-one buys his guide anymore

reply

Whatever gave you that idea? People buy his guide all the time.

reply

Why would you buy it anymore for one guys opinion when you have sites like this where you get thousands of diverse opinions.
Besides his opinion on this film was totally inaccurate. It was a great doco-drama for 1973.

reply

I don't personally buy it anymore but there are tons of others who do because it's rated as the annual #1 best seller. With regards to this particular movie I've read the same opinion from several other sources. Everyone has a different opinion on everything.

The film is a pretty bold statement, especially on the part of the actors, who are all putting their stakes in with those of Dalton Trumbo -- much admired as a screenwriter, but whose politics remained a hot potato for Hollywood's establishment.

Leftists have alway been plentiful in LA, but the genuine power is in cash, not in the creatives.

I get his guide every five years, but he is sometimes off-base. I enjoyed the film and would give it an 8/10. I don't like the fact that over the years he will sometimes change his rating. At least Roger Ebert wouldn't do that. He may change his mind about the film but he sticks to his original rating, even in such cases.

Leonard Maltin has always been a *beep* moron. My cat reviews films better than he does.

reply

Does your cat also realize that this movie was crap?

reply

If the cat knew the screenplay was by Commie traitor Trumbo, he probably would use it for cat litter. Not much else of value.

reply

Maltin is the most ignorable film critic in history...

You may very well be right on that.
