The movie's weakest link

This movie dramatizes a theory about Kennedy’s assassination in which Oswald is not the assassin. One weak link in the movie comes when Oswald shoots a policeman. Watching the report on television, Tim says, “That wasn’t in the scenario,” indicating that they did not expect Oswald to do that. Farrington tries to explain why Oswald would kill a policeman, but it's a bit lame.

But I was willing to let that one slide. It was when Tim goes to visit Jack Ruby that we have the weakest link in this conspiracy theory. The proof that it is the weakest link lies in the fact that we are not privy to their conversation. And we do not get to hear what Tim says to Ruby because there is no possible conversation the scriptwriter could come up with that would make any sense.

The whole point of this movie is to show us in detail what might have happened and to do so in a way that makes the theory believable. By leaving the conversation between Tim and Ruby out, the movie as much as admits that it cannot explain this part.

It would have been better to have Tim and Farrington watching television again when Ruby shoots Oswald, at which point Tim says, “That’s something else we didn’t expect,” after which Farrington says, “Yeah, but it’s a good break for us.”

There are a lot more weak links, even though the one you mentioned is pretty big.

This movie struck me as what happens when you get a group of left leaning people (who happen to be some of my favorite actors) getting together to portray what they think are the way right leaning people think and act.

Never mind the whole problem with some 20 or so people involved in a conspiracy keeping their mouths shut.

Good point and not surprising at all.
Exhibit A: Dalton Trumbo

Groups of people commit or are witness to crimes all the time but don't speak about them because they don't like going to jail or getting killed.

Oswald and his part in this is not explained at all other than they set him up. I didn't understand when he got arrested they watched on TV and Farrington said he must have run into the officer (Tippet) and panicked. Why would he panic and shoot a cop if he had nothing to do with it? And according to the movie premise, Oswald WAS a complete innocent.

At least Trumbo was a true independent that understood how to use the populist mindset. Basically a smarter Donald Trump.
