Did they cut scenes in Criterion version???

Hello there,

I remember seeing this film on VHS a few years back. In the scene where Ana imagines meeting the Frankenstein monster at the end, I recall him placing his hands on Ana's shoulders. Then Ana closes her eyes and places her hands over her heart.

In the Criterion DVD release, all I see is the Frankenstein monster place his hands on her shoulders and then the scene cuts away, omitting the part where Ana closes her eyes and puts her hands to her heart.

Did Criterion cut scenes or is my memory way off?

I just saw this version, and she clearly does close her eyes when the monster puts his hands on her shoulders. I don't remember the hands on heart detail, but I could have simply missed it.

I think they cut the very end of that scene. I don't recall seeing her hands move from (I think) her lap.

I've no knowledge of the specifics, but I'm extremely doubtful just on general principles. With all the restoration work it does, Criterion is very conscious of authenticity, moreso than any other label I'm aware of. I've never known -and wouldn't expect- Criterion to make a "cut".
