I farking hated this movie.
Maybe not the original itself, but the version i've seen* was edited to hell and back (only 80 minutes). I understand some people are so mentally deficient as to think movies need to be censored, but what the blue hell is the point of cutting out the scenes of nudity and gore in a spanish horror movie from the 70's?! That's like taking Casablanca and editing out all the scenes that take place in morroco- you remove all the parts that people want to see in the movie to begin with!

If I pay money to see a movie, either at the theatre, at the video store, or wherever, I want the movie as complete as the original director's editing will allow. Who do the funk do these censors think they are? I can even forgive this stupid idea that we have to protect children from such horrendously evil things as "a body as nature/God/Who-or-Whatever intended" and "Some latex bits and red corn syrup," But for Chrissakes, I'm a sound-minded 22 year old, and if I choose to see people's fun bits or entrails that have been made available, what possible moral authority do you have to tell me otherwise?!

* "Horror Rises From the Tomb" was included in the "Cult Horror Classics" DVD set Released by St Clair Vision. I found this particularly aggrevating after finding out how much these same people edited from Dario Argento's Deep Red ( entitled in the set as "The Hatchet Murders")

Funny because I disagree. You need to be careful which movie you get. There are many versions out there that are hacked up, badly reedited and have almost all of the violence and nudity removed, leaving parts of the film senseless. The remastered version I saw looked good and was very atmospheric, not to mention full of blood and nudity. The other print floating around does not do this film justice.

reply

Yeah, the version I have isn't half bad.

Tits are nice too.

reply

I've seen the censored version, it was senseless.

I have the hacked up version on a Diamond set, and I actually enjoyed it even without the nudity. It's senseless, and random, but that makes half the enjoyment. Not in a funny way either, I actually like this movie, lol...I still need to see the uncut version and havent read yet about the new BCI Eclipse dvd, whether or not it's uncut. But if you threw in boobs and some 70's bush, it would make this movie awesome

I thought this film was a good deal of zesty Eurotrash horror sleaze exploitation fun. Paul Naschy makes for a perfectly hateful villain, Helga Line is absolutely ravishing, and Emma Cohen rates as a most fetching heroine. Plus there's creepy zombies, a talking severed head, plentiful nasty gore, lots of hot naked ladies, a gloomy tone, and even some heart eating. What's not to like?

I write bios, therefore I am.

I think most of the people that have seen this flick viewed one of the many heavily, clumsily cut versions with crap picture and sound. In fact, that was the only way to see the film; when I first saw it a few years back I didn't like it either. Thanks to BCI/Eclipse, that's all changed. They've released the defintive version of HRFTT, finally in widescreen, truly uncut and looking/sounding fantastic.

To the naysayers, check this version out as it's a totally different experience from what's come before, and a really fun one at that.

I use to have a version of this that was not edited. It made some sense. I loaned it out and never got it back. So then when I saw it with a huge like 9 or ten pack of movies for dirt cheep I bought it. That version was so edited down that I was like WTF is going on in a few places. While it is not really the best movie it is entertaining if you have some time to kill and if you have a version that is not so edited to the point it makes no sense.

I read there's a musical version of this.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

Nope. This is stylish and enjoyable with an atmospheric score and good sets and cinematography.
