Tree at excution the same as in Conan the Barbarian?

Having seen the quite remarkable move the other day, I wonder wether that bizarre tree in the execution scene at the beginning of the move is the same as the "tree of woe" from Conan the Barbarian. Both movies were shot in Spain, after all. Any clues?

No. Per Naschy in the commentary track on the new BCI DVD, the tree burned down during the making of the movie from one of the torches used in that scene. Caused quite a stir at the time since the tree had some historical significance to the region.

Commentary track, which version do you have? I would be intersted to know the whereabouts of the filming locations, do they talk about it in the commentary?

Thanks

In the opening credits, they say it was filmed in Talamanca del Jarama (Spain). Google maps will find it for you.

Not the same tree.
The scenes with the ill-fated tree in "El espanto" were shot in Alameda del valle, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain (Street view available on Google maps).
The tree was a historical monument since in the Middle Ages some Spanish knights reunited under the tree to plan a big battle... and during the shooting of this movie an idiot from the crew regrettably burned it down by accident!

The other main location for this Naschy film were his parents country house in Lozoya, near Madrid. They also shot some minor scenes in Talamanca del Jarama.

Spanish locations for Conan were in Cuenca and Segovia. Maybe the tree in Conan was just a designed prop.

Hope this was helpful.
