I remember seeing this as a kid. I remember that the cop in the movie starts to believe her about her missing husband he winds up getting shot when trying to find the husband. Cloris Leachman's character takes off in the police car and winds up crashing it and getting stuck while still at the parkinglot of the diner. The captors wind up putting both the man and wife into the back of their station wagon, presumably to take them out of the area to kill them and dump their bodies. I believe the husband is still tied up but instructs his wife to grab a street flair out of the back of the wagon. She does this, ingnites it and pushes it in the face of the female captor, blinding her. I don't remember the details but they wind up getting away and and are later rescued by the police, who in the end are seen arresting the other culprits.
