pleasantly surprised

I bought this from a pound store aware of its cult status, but like they say never judge a book by its cover.

It had a great script, I could tell it wasnt just going to be another hack and slash. The 'insane' actors did a brilliant job, very convincing. And the two twists were such great fun. It wasnt the best movie ever, but for a low budget banned 70's film it could have been so much worse. This is staying in my collection.

I agree. Besides being very entertaining and original, Don't look in the basement is just honest-to-God pure quality horror. No unnecessary effects and expenses, just an empty, isolated vibe mixed with mystery and madness. They don't make them like this anymore.

They certainly dont make them like this anymore, or if they try to they are terrible. I thought this movie would have no effect but Im sill thinking about it nearly a week later. Just worried about this 2009 remake on the cards, out will go the horror and in will come the unnecessary killing.
