Why the hell isn't there an official DVD out for this?

I don't get it. There is a following for this film, its well-regarded yet the film appears to be in limbo.

You are correct and I agree with you -- and I do think a DVD would be more profitable for its producers than most of the crap out there that IS on DVD.

Howbeit, the stats are like those when they cancelled Star Trek in the 1960s.

A vibrant fan base doesn't necesarrily mean the whole country -- or even a percent of it -- is going to go out and buy it. They're too busy producing stupid movies that they think will appeal to a broader audience.

There are probably 100,000 diehard DBAOTD fans out there, but they could probably sell a million copies of Resident Evil or, several million of The Hills Have Eyes.

And, for every 100,000 fans of Don't Be Aftaid of the Dark, the Charlie Brown Valentine's Day Special probably has even more.

Because it is public domain most likely. If anyone can get it free, no one wants to invest in artwork etc. Catch 22 because I can't even find it for free.

Why do you think it is in the public domain?

It doesn't belong to the public domain; Warner Bros. owns this title and is currently pondering its official release.

I was wondering the same thing. I've seen movies that were total crap released on DVD. Lets see this one. I recall seeing it back in 73 and it was one of the most creepy made for tv flicks Id ever seen.
"I dont remember any of it. Did I see it?"

This film is now available as an MOD DVD-R from Warner Archive and can be purchased from an online retailer off of Amazon at a reasonable price..
