I believe this was released in the U.K. back in 1973-1974, but it didn't make it to the U.S. until 1977 when I first saw it. I was only 12yr old back then and this was actually the very first movie I saw by myself at a theater. It was shown at an Independent Theater in Cambridge, MA in Central Sq. The theater is now long gone of course, but I remember it well as it had 2 theaters. In the other theater the movie "The Man Who Fell To Earth" was playing.
I remember asking my mother if she would take me, but she was busy and didn't want to go. So I asked if I could go by myself and she agreed as long as I was very careful crossing the streets and came straight home after it was over. She gave me $5 for the movie, food/drink. The theater was only about a mile from my home. Took me about 15mins to get there. Paid for my ticket, got my popcorn and drink and went it. Theater was small and there were a couple other people in there with some kids. I don't remember is any trailers were shown. I vaguely remember the film. I knew there scientist and some bad guys who steal Digby. I remember there were some funny scenes in it. I know there were some catchy songs as well. I know I enjoyed it, because when I got home I told my mother all about it. I think she was just happy I got home in one peace.
I'll have to get it if it ever comes out on DVD. I checked EBay and it is on DVD, but it's U.K. only. It won't play on U.S. DVD unless you have a Region Free DVD/Blu-Ray player.
