Motown Timecapsule

I stayed up and watched this film and, as a native of Detroit, found it a curious time capsule.
The downtown skyline seen in the movie was radically different. There was no Renaissance Center, Joe Louise Arena or One Detroit Plaza. The Greektown, Motor City and MGM Casinos didn't exist yet. There also was no People Mover(elevated train). The JL Hudson's building was not only standing but the store was open as well. The Book Cadillac hotel was still open(it was closed and abandoned for twenty years and then fixed up, reopened and is still in use today. Off in the distance during the scenes by the river was the skyline of Canadian city Windsor, Ontario with their casino's missing but the Hiram Walker distillery plainly visible.
As far as the cast, there were cameo appearances by then Detroit Police Chief John Nichols who ran for Detroit Mayor the following year and lost to State Senator Coleman Young(Nichols moved north to become Oakland County Sheriff). Also there were cameos by longtime Radio personalities Dick Purtan(who retired in 2010) and Martha Jean “The Queen” Steinberg( passed away in 2000). Longtime WJBK-TV2 reporter Woody Willis(passed away this year) also had a cameo as well.
