Not really the 'Mother of all cannibal movies'

It claims to be this...yes there is about 4 minutes of cannibalism...have i seen a heavily edited version or is it as tame as that?

The above opinion should be ignored by everyone

It may be light on cannibalism but this was definitely the innovator of the Italian made cannibal shock movies that were to follow, and probably one of the classiest too.

Hi Wrench-7!

That is an amazing web site you have put together. I am totally impressed. You've got to find a way to let others know what you've done there. I have only looked through your first page of "Video Nasties" and can't wait to go back for more! Those screen shots are excellent! They bring back some great memories and also tease me into wanting to see all the films! That's a real gift to those of us who appreciate the beauty of a real gut-crunching horror movie!

Thanks again for your hard work!

Sheila

It is a tame cannibal film, compared to 'Holocaust' & 'Ferox' anyway, that's for sure. I always thought of it this way, don't know what you guys think; the original Italian title - Il paese del sesso selvaggio - translates as 'The Country of Wild Sex' (!) which suggests this was meant as some sort of exotic softcore film (the love scene in the river and Me Me Lai running naked in slow motion are definitive cinema moments!). Anyway, the brief cannibal scene in this movie somehow (inadvertently?) kicked started a trend for Mondo-style cannibal flicks and Lenzi & Deodato tried to out do each other over the next few years. I don't think Lenzi meant this as a cannibal flick but just wants credit for this effort being the 'mother'/first.

Still, the movie rules either way.

Most advertising of this film is misleading... trying to "cash in" on the "cannibal craze".

Yes of course there is some cannibal scenes... but it's really unimportant to the story... which is a "soft core" porn / jungle adventure story... not a cannibal film.

But think of how shocking it would have been to see those cannibal scenes back in 1972... lots of "barf bags".

Is it the father? You can tell me.

It certainly sparked the Italian cannibal craze to come. So yes, itโ€™s the Mother. ๐Ÿ˜‹
