Two questions

One: When the Jackal discovers his cover is blown, he makes the decision to continue with the operation. Does he expect to get the other half of his money or not.
Two: Was there an advantage to "shacking up" with a man instead of a woman when he arrived in Paris as Per Lundquist?

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

reply

1 - I imagine that yes he would expect to get the rest of his payment if he succeeded.

2 - By shacking up with a man, it might throw the authorities off. He already used a woman earlier so his thinking would be that they would not expect him to be hiding out with a man this time around.

reply

1. Yes, it's about the money but also about the challenge. He's shown hesitating at the Italian border. He knows the caper is blown and he'll keep his advance, but he decides to continue.

2. By shacking up with anybody, he avoids being shown on any hotel registry cards, which they show a motorcycle courier collecting. I think the scene where the cabinet members call Detective Lebel back has them saying he "simply disappeared." He did that by not staying in any hotel under any identity.

reply

Finding a man to stay with does give him that extra bit of unpredictability and helps him disappear off the radar, although he could just as easily have found a woman.

That just underlines the fact that it gives him extra help in eluding the authorities.

It's easier to pick up a gay guy than a woman.

Yes, he was after the money.

Agree. Saunas are known as hookup places for homosexuals; otherwise, he would have had to have gone bar-hopping to find a woman, which would have exposed him in public- and possible detection- much longer. Quicker and easier to go the gay route. The Turkish bath kept him hidden.
