Didn't realize how low budget the movie actually was till I saw it. This comes very close to the legendary cardboard camera in "Future War"

The alien was part satire of space special effects. They could have made a much "realistic" alien but that wouldn't have been nearly so funny. I think the moment the alien appears is precisely where the audience is divided into people that love the movie and the others who think it is a big joke on them for watching this far.
