Ending (spoiler request)?

How did it end? I was watching this movie on TV today and had to step away. The last part of the exchange I saw was in the park after "escaping" the cyclists. When I got back to the TV Tom and Joe were waste-deep in the luxurious above ground swimming pool (which seems to say it all, but maybe not... I never saw the cigars get smoked either).

So did they get to keep the cash, if not, what happened?

Thanks,

Eric

Yeah, it seems Tom and Joe got their happy ending. However, the mobster Patsy / Pasquale got whacked, presumably because this result wasn't acceptable to his associates. Patsy's funeral plays out as the end credits start rolling.

What do you think this is, a signature? It's a way of life!

As the poster stated, in the "current edit" (i'll say) of the movie "Cops and Robbers", "Tom" (Cliff Gorman) and "Joe" (Joseph Bologna) do get away with the loot. But i remember a slightly different ending from watching this movie multiple times on "regular TV" waaay back in the '70s and '80s.

If my memory serves me correctly, the ending i remember is:

After they escape the mob in Central Park, the camera shows Tom and Joe in a backyard swimming pool. They then show Tom and Joe stuck in traffic on a highway(?), a car then pulls up on the right side of their car, i believe Tom(?) looks at the guy in that car and says or motions: "What's up" or "What are you going to do?" (regarding the bad traffic). The camera then shows the funeral where "Patsy" (John P. Ryan) is being buried. They show the mob boss "Mr. Joe" (Nino Ruggeri) and the various mourners at the funeral, the camera then pans to some cemetery tombstones....and then pans back to Tom and Joe! This happens over again and again - they show Tom and Joe together, camera pans to Patsy's funeral, camera then pans to tombstones (at the cemetery), then pans back to Tom and Joe.

Now in my opinion, that ending was saying that Tom and Joe didn't really get away with ripping off the mob. That they would eventually be caught by the mob (the mob was aware of who they were, after all) and "rubbed out". And that car driver that pulled up to Tom and Joe in traffic (at end of movie), i believe was a gangster with Patsy's crew. That ending was very ominous (with that music playing in the background!). And eerie!! It's been a while since i've seen that specific ending, but i can't forget an ending like that.

On the dvd i have now (and the "version" shown on cable, ex. Turner Classic Movies – TCM network), after they escape the mob at Central Park, they show Tom and Joe in the pool, then show the mourners and Mr. Joe at the funeral, and then the credits roll, movie ends.

Regarding the ending that's shown now, while i did like Joe and Tom in the movie, i like the "original" version ending better. Not the one being shown now.

I too remember that ending but remember it slightly different. At the beginning of the movie, you remember they were stuck in traffic and how it bothered Joe and how he was uptight and yelling at other drivers. Then the Lincoln pulls up and he's commenting how comfortable the guy is in his air conditioned Lincoln Continental. At the ending, they are again stuck in traffic and another luxury air coinditioned car pulls up. That DRI er turns and looks at Joe and smiles which Joe returns the smile and says "how you doing?". It just showed that he isn't uptight anymore because he himself is now rich. The movie cuts to the funeral and ends. One deleted scene was them talking in the parking lot, about ideas to make a fortune, of the supermarket then racing their shopping carts and crashing into each other.
