Disappointed with DVD

This is one of my all-time favorite Sarno films. I've owned it on VHS for years and was really excited to hear about the DVD release. Unfortunately, the DVD is a bit of a disappointment.

Simply put, the VHS version is far more complete. It clocks in at about 84 minutes, vs the DVD, which is only 73 minutes. Yes, the Special Features on the DVD contain three "deleted" scenes, but these turned out to be scenes that have been in the VHS version all along that Retro-Seduction decided to delete (for whatever reason). Also, parts of the original dialogue for those deleted scenes are missing, having been looped over with just moans and groans.

In addition, many of the scenes in the main film on the DVD version have been shortened. On the VHS version, for example, the love scene between Jennifer Welles and Eric Edwards and the one between Welles and Chris Jordan are both many seconds longer. On the DVD, they've been chopped shorter. Plus, there are many irritating "pops" and "scratches" in this cut of the film, which obliterate sentences in mid-dialogue, so that words get missed here and there. Unfortunate.

I suspect that Retro-Seduction probably had a shorter, inferior print to work with for the DVD remastering, as opposed to whichever one had been available for the VHS, and had to work with what they had. Such is the reality of restoring old films. And I imagine that, if you've never seen the full-length VHS version, you probably won't know what you're missing anyway.

I still salute the RS company for getting Sarno's catalog out on DVD, in whatever condition they can find the films in. It's just that, with this particular favorite flick of mine, I wish the results had been more satisfactory.
