bad audio design

Did anyone else struggle to make out what the characters were saying as often as I did? The sound mix in this movie is completely whack, with the sound effects and background noise often completely drowning out the dialogue in many spots.

I must've had to rewind the film at least 15 times just to make sure I got exactly what the characters said. I know this is a low-budget film, but there is no excuse for this when you take into account that Night of the Living Dead was also made on a budget of scraps, and yet the audio for that was nowhere near as unintelligible.

Any thoughts?
