Disappointing

Despite the strong cast, I think this film felt pretty flat. It feels more like a TV-movie follow-up to "Summer of '42" than a true sequel in spirit. Gary Grimes, Jerry Houser and Sam Bottoms turn in fine performances, but they had little to work with here. 6/10 stars from me.

I agree.

"Class of '44" in 1973 is as if a movie were released this year called "Class of '90". Very little nostalgia can be mined from only twenty-nine years.

It was a much different time because of the social upheavals of World War II etc. And there were lots of rapid changes in the sixties and seventies. So nostalgia for just a couple decades prior was viable. Just look at "American Graffiti," released in the early seventies and celebrating an era just ten years before.
