Why was Valerie Leon's voice over dubbed?

I know it's shown inthe "Trivia" for this entry that she was dubbed, but I noticed it myself too many years ago.

I'm just wondering why it was done. It seems very odd. Especially as June Whitfield is in the film too. It is SO obvious.

I have no idea, it's bizarre. I've seen Valerie Leon's film 'Blood From The Mummy's Tomb' and her own speaking voice is fine.

it was really obvious and weird looking too

It is certainly bizarre that Valerie was dubbed in this film. She had a speaking role in several other 'Carry Ons' (i.e. Camping, Again Doctor, Up The Jungle') and performed very well indeed. June Whitfield has been asked about this and she says she can't recall the reasons why she dubbed Valerie's voice.

One reason that has been suggested is this: If there was one piece of footage featuring Valerie Leon that had poor or ruined sound, it would need to re-dubbed at a later stage. If Valerie herself was unavailable at a later date, another actress would need to be brought in to do it. That would mean, however, re-dubbing ALL of Valerie's scenes, as it would be silly having her character speak in two different voices. June Whitfield was the team's most experienced radio/voice-over performer, so she was asked to do it.

This seems the most likely answer. It's clearly not because Valerie's own voice was unsuitable, and must simply be put down to a problem with the sound tape on one of her takes.

bring back the dead a bit but most of the main thoery is that for some reason, Valerie leon's voice wasn't that good (be it cold or flu or whatever) and it had to be replaced and she wasn't able to do the redubbing.. However, this doesn't always stand up.. carry on films didn't have huge budgets and things were often done on the cheap, and i have seen bigger budget films that just redub 1 scene more then having to redo the whole film, cause it's cheaper. For a tape problem, it would also mean all the REST of the cast had to redub there lines too which seams alot more fuss then they normally went too.

It is the most likely answer but seams unlikely that enough of her work was damaged and that said 'We are going to have to redo ALL of it' AND she wasn't able to do it for that.. so they found it easier to get June Whitfield (who was in the film of course) to redo them lines...

Also brings up the question.. why hasn't anyone asked Valerie Leon or June Whitfield or anyone about it to get an answer?
