Funniest Carry One EVER

I think this is the funniest film in the carry on series...

What you guys think?

reply

Equal with Carry On Camping I'd say.

"I ain't no number"

reply

I agree. The best of the series.

reply

Equal with Carry On Screaming I would say.

Carry on Up the Kyber is MUCH better.

Its your turn Heather, no Heather its Heathers turn... Heather!!! ~ Heathers

Me too.I just love this film.If ever it comes on the television I always start to watch it"Just for five minutes" and before I know it I'm settled down again until the end.
Its great fun, nonsense and just a laugh.

I love Carry On Spying as well! But I agree Abroad is a pretty good one.

Irrisistible.

This is pretty much my favourite Carry On too. It just has so many great jokes in it - because it deals with the subject of the Brits abroad it has a slightly broader scope to it instead of just the usual 'oo er missus' jokes. My favourite bit is when the Chief of Police sticks two fingers up and Ken Connor says 'Damned FILTH!'I also love Peter Butterworth as the hotel keeper desperately trying to deal with all the complaints until the switchboard explodes. 'Room servicings?'

The only downside is Gail Granger's acting! She was stunningly attractive and has a lovely speaking voice, but really she can't act for toffee - worse than the dollybirds that played young Mr Grace's secretaries in 'Are You Being Served?'!

the last 20 minutes really sum up the carry on films - amazing fun.
maybe i'm a bit sad but watching that part of the film, i almost feel that i'm there at the party myself!

reply

This and Carry on Camping are my favourites. Jimmy Logan was brilliant in this.

reply

my all time fave is Carry on Cleo but this one seems to be the one that alot more people i know rate as one of the best.

and i can see why and feel this is Carry on at its peak. just wish Jim Dale had been in it too

Two of the funniest moments ever committed to celluloid are in this film.

1. Sid and Joan can't open the balcony door to let air in, so they call for Peter B, who steps through the door (no glass in it yet), opens the doors from the outside, and fresh air and birdsong flood into the room. Sid and Joan are bewildered.

2. Sid and Joan, drunk, can't open the balcony door to let air in, so Sid steps through the door and collapses onto the balcony in a shower of glass. As Joan screams with laughter, he stumbles into the room mumbling "They put the bloody glass in!".

Even typing it makes me smile.

I saw the film on TV recently, and Sid's line was cut!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ruined the scene!!!!!!!!!!!

The balloons in the party scene are all in rude shapes: two round balloons next to each other, with a long, thin balloon sticking out of the top. Marvellous.

It's definately the last great Carry On the whole gang is present with the addition of June Whitfield and Jimmy Logan and they all seem to be having a great time. Full of classic one-liners and love Peter Butterworth & Hattie Jacques as the spanish couple "blooding fool"

reply

This is my favourite Carry On, and Butterworth totally owns the film. I also still can't quite believe they named Sid James' character Vic FLANGE.

I agree. Its not my very favourite, but its the last of the great ones. Girls was a huge come down next and, while I think a couple of the later ones are OK, a part of me wishes they had finished with this one. The slow decline afterwards was quite painfull to watch, and having most of the team together in the pub at the end would have been a great way to freeze them in memory, rather than watch them fizzle out.

I can't begrudge the extra employment the last few films gave cast and crew though I suppose. They have their moments, but I can't honestly say I would desperately miss any after this.

Agree totally, was a wee one when first started watching the Carry On`s. They are great as they got funnier as I got older (and you start to get the double entendres). I still always laugh at the use of a penny whistle, who knew that passing someone a sausage roll could be so funny!

My favourite line in this one

Vic reacting to the wife finding about Sadie going to Elsbels

Vic "You wouldn't want me to go without it just because she`s gonna be there"
Wife "If SHE`S gonna be there, you WON`T be going without it"

"You`re right, no human being would stack books like this" - Venkman (Ghostbusters)

Abroad is definitely my favourite Carry On, it had great one liners, and in June Whitfield (my first real crush as a teen) an actress who made a ludicrous scene sexy......

Si vis pacem, para bellum

reply

It isn't my favourite, but i do think it's funny. would have liked to see more of Hattie Jacques though.

reply

The Hattie part was originally larger (no pun intended) but she wasn't available for the whole shooting period.

thank you, i didn't know that. she is good in it. So is june Whitfield, a pity she wasn't in more Carry Ons I think.
