Pre-SCTV Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin
Roger Ebert had once picked this movie out as a "dog of the week". Once I found out it starred Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin, I had to see it for that reason alone since I would follow the cast of SCTV to the ends of the earth. . They must have made this around the same time they were both appearing in the Toronto version of "Godspell" which was wildly successful and had other future SCTV actors Dave Thomas and Martin Short as well as Gilda Radner and Paul Schaffer. Unfortunately, nothing in Martin's and Levy's work in Cannibal Girls is distinctive but it would be difficult for any actor to say this terrible dialogue burdened by terrible direction by Ivan Reitman who went on to make much more successful comedies starring Second City alumni a few years later like Meatballs, Stripes and Ghostbusters. Luckily for Martin, the following year she got a nice role in Bob Clark's proto-slasher classic Black Christmas. Cannibal Girls is a putrid film. My only regret is that I didn't see a version with the "warning bell" before disturbing parts. That would have made it a laugh riot!.
