This is a good movie!

It is not one of John Wayne's best ones and the script writers made some great actors look silly such as George Kennedy at the rain scene when he leaves the sick boy alone to get well. But it still is a good movie in spite of it's faults. Neville Brand gives a great performance as Lightfoot. He should have been given serious oscar consideration for best supporting actor.

I agree! Duke was up to his usual skill and he had a good supporting cast. I especially like Neville Brand and his character and wish they had explored their relationship some. It would have been good if they had treated this as another Rooster Cogburn type of film with another one of that character. I know that there were no such films as "prequels" at that time, but this would have been a good one to have one maybe 7 or 8 years earlier with Lightfoot.

Am a big Duke fan, but I think the wheels were spinning with this one. It bogs down with too much boys and too little Duke and Lightfoot (their conversations were one of the movie's saving graces).
